Rear wheel: 18 x 5.5 or 18 x 4.25 inch?
With a 21 inch front wheel, most riders choose an 18 inch rear wheel. Then the question is: how wide? This Heritage has a rear wheel 5.5 inches wide. That gives a fat rear end, but it is on the wide side for the original swingarm. With a 150 rear tyre it fits, but it's a tight fit.

A 21 inch front wheel on a Softail
A Heritage Softail comes from the factory on small 16 inch wheels. With a 21 inch front wheel the front end sits higher and the bike looks slimmer and tougher, with a bagger- or chopper-like look. Combined with high bars, like this 14 inch Carlini ape hanger, it really becomes a different bike.
- Hub made to fit: the hub must match your fork, axle and brake disc. A single or dual front disc needs a different hub.
- ABS: if your bike has ABS, an ABS bearing goes into the wheel.
- Front fender: not every original fender suits a big 21 inch wheel. Send us a photo of your front end and we'll think it through with you.

Does a 21 inch front wheel fit my Harley Softail?
Yes, a 21 inch front wheel can go on most Softails. The wheel gets a hub that matches your fork, axle, brake disc and ABS if fitted. Send us your model and year and we'll check which version you need.
Does an 18 x 5.5 inch rear wheel fit in the original swingarm?
It can, but it's tight. A rear wheel 5.5 inches wide is on the wide side for the original swingarm. With a 150 rear tyre it fits, but there's little room left. That's why we usually advise an 18 x 4.25 inch rear wheel.
Which rear wheel do you advise with a 21 inch front wheel?
Usually an 18 inch rear wheel, 4.25 inches wide. That fits the original swingarm well and, together with a 21 inch front wheel, gives a nice, bold line. If you want the wider 5.5 inch wheel, we first discuss whether it fits your bike.
